I’m a complete outsider, but the fact that a third of the voting public, that represented by National Rally, has now been “quarantined” from participation, rendering the country’s institutions powerless and the country itself ungovernable, seems reminiscent of how the legacy press in the US has treated dismissively Trumpian rural America (so-called “flyover country”), with its “guns and Bibles.” The educated urban press does not want to deal with the angry populist crowds. By trying to cordon them off and render them politically toothless they only make them angrier and ultimately more dangerous.

I was thinking exactly the same. If you don’t listen to your countrymen and demonize them and their concerns, you will have nothing but deadlock.

Europe is becoming ungovernable.

JEWISH FAMILIES URGED TO LEAVE FRANCE: https://khmezek.substack.com/p/jewish-families-urged-to-leave-france

With Jean Luc Melenchon, a blatant antisemite, at the helm, joining forces with radical Islamists, what could possibly go wrong for Jews in France.

Jews around the Western world should be paying attention to France because they could be next—stuck between the far-left and the far-right with nowhere to go:

Following the success of the “far-right” in the first round, Moshe Sebbag, a rabbi at the Grand Synagogue of Paris said, 'it seems France has no future for Jews' and advised younger Jews to 'leave for Israel'. 'People my age, we've made our life here... we fear for the future of our children,' he told The Times of Israel.

And then, following the success of the “far-left” in the second round, French-Jewish philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy said: 'The left is once again kidnapped by the infamous Melenchon. Divisive language. Hate of the republic on the lips. Around him right now are some incarnations of the new antisemitism... Continue to fight against these people.'

Fascinating. From afar, it seems that the far left and Islamists have gained a degree of power that the average Frenchman would not have anticipated or endorsed. Russia is likely to benefit from this disfunction in the heart of the Eurozone as well, in such areas as energy and Ukraine policy.

We are living in an era that begs for transcendent leaders, for truly gifted, special individuals, to lead us through our self-created political hubris. Here in America it certainly looks like the "junior varsity" is running things, or attempting to. Philippe, is there some emerging politician in France who could play this role?
