The groups with grievances are uniting organically to take on the West. They create self serving narratives to support their position and recruit others to their ranks. The West is held captive and unable to respond, captured by its own idealized narratives of free speech and civil rights. Its time to refocus from 30,000 feet and see that our narrow idealism is leading us to destruction. We need to become pragmatists and throw out those who seek to destroy us. We can reinstate our idealized values and narratives after we have destroyed the enemy. War is hell, but they have declared it on us. After 50 years of the diversity and tolerance mantra, we need to realize that every mantra (or idea) must have limiting principles if that mantra is not to become the means of our own destruction. Only pragmatism can save us now, not idealism.
